Objective:The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of sleep disorders in drug addicts, and to further examine whether impulsivity mediated the relationship between family environments and sleep disorders among drug addicts. Methods:Family environments, impulsivity, and sleep disorders were assessed by Family Environment Scale of Chinese Version (FES-CV),Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11),and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality (PSQI),and in total of 441 drug addicts in compulsory drug treatment centers in China were invited to participate in the study. The mediation tests were based on Wen Zhonglin’s three-step regression method. Results:Results indicated that the mean PSQI score was 5.88 (SD=3.47),and 48.3% of drug addicts reported poor sleep quality.Males drug addicts had poor sleep quality compared with females (6.3±3.7 vs.5.4±3.2,P<0.01).For female addicts, the motor impulsiveness is a mediator between the correlation of conflict,intellectual-cultural and dysfunction, the mediating effect accounted for 8.39% and 19.9% of the total effect respectively. Conclusion:Sleep disturbance is a serious health concern among drug addicts, and intervention and prevention programs on impulsivity might be beneficial in improving sleep quality in drug addicts.
