Study on From Ancient Greek Statues to Qingzhou Cellars Buddhist Stone Statue

本文主要谈古希腊雕刻与中国青州窖藏佛教造像的历史联系。我们从荷马史诗开始来理解古希腊文明的演变。古希腊文明主要体现在希腊神话、建筑和雕刻上。它们分别是荷马时期、古风时期、古典时期和希腊化四个时期。作为古丝绸之路中的关键枢纽犍陀罗地区在希腊文明与中国文明的交流碰撞中起到了重要的传承作用。青州佛教造像比希腊化时雕刻期晚了近四百年,但这丝毫不影响艺术的连通性和雕刻艺术的演进和传播。这些在青州从北魏到北齐这一时期佛教造像的艺术表现中都有所体现。

This article mainly talks about the historical connection between ancient Greek carvings and Buddhist statues in Qingzhou,China.We begin with Homer’s epic to understand the evolution of ancient Greek civilization.Ancient Greek civilization is mainly reflected in Greek mythology,architecture,and sculptures.They are the four periods:Homeric,Antiquity,Classical and Hellenistic.As a key hub of the ancient Silk Road,the Gandhara region played an important role in the communication and collision between Greek civilization and Chinese civilization.The Qingzhou Buddhist statues were nearly 400 years later than the Hellenistic carving period,but this did not affect the connectivity of art and the evolution and spread of carving art.These are reflected in the artistic expression of Buddhist statues in Qingzhou from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Northern Qi Dynasty.
