Possibility of the Border Wall as a Public Space:Ronald Rael’s Architectural Conception and Practice

美墨边境墙是两国国境线上的森严政治隔离象征,同时也对边境乃至更深广的两国社会、经济、文化、生态等层次有多重影响,以致产生了诸多议题。美国建筑师、公共艺术家罗纳德·雷奥(Ronald Rael)及其团队以美墨边境墙为研究与实验对象,进行了诸多颇有启示的实践,本文试图梳理归纳雷奥的实践,从此个案角度探讨作为特异的公共空间——"边境"——可以引申出的积极可能性。

The US-Mexico border wall is a symbol of strict political isolation on the border of the two countries,and it also has many influences on the social,economic,cultural and ecological issues of the two countries.The American architect,public artist Ronald Rael and his team have carried out a lot of enlightening practices with the US-Mexico border wall as the research and experimental object.This paper attempts to sort out his practice in this case to explore the"border"as a specific public space,which might be extended to some positive possibilities.
