Short chain fatty acids(SCFA),metabolites produced by the fermentation of dietary fiber by intestinal flora, play important role in maintaining intestinal environment and function of epithelial cells. As an important mediator of gut-brain axis commu⁃nication,SCFA is closely related to the occurrence and development of a variety of physiological functions or diseases in human body, and its role in intestinal diseases has been confirmed. In recent years,it has been found that SCFA can promote the metabolism of the body, with a significant effect on controlling body mass and regulating blood glucose and lipid. The roles of SCFA in metabolic diseas⁃es have become a research hotspot.Although the mechanism of action remains to be clarified, the effect and therapeutic potential of SCFA for the treatment of metabolic diseases is promising.
