摘要
国际化范围上的特征及变化,既体现了中国企业差异化的战略布局,又刻画了国际化扩张中区位选择的动态调整过程,是高层管理团队(TMT)通过内部互动整合管理者个体知识、做出一系列战略决策的结果。本文以2010-2016年中国上市公司为研究样本,从高阶梯队理论的行为整合视角出发,集中探讨了高管团队知识断裂带、CEO-TMT交互与国际化范围的关系。其中,CEO-TMT交互分为CEO-TMT任期交叠与CEO-TMT相似交互。研究发现:高管团队知识断裂带对国际化范围具有显著负向效应,高管团队知识断裂带强度越高,国际化范围越窄;CEO-TMT任期交叠、CEO-TMT相似交互分别对高管团队知识断裂带与国际化范围关系起倒U型调节作用。即随着CEO-TMT任期交叠、CEOTMT相似交互的提高,先削弱高管团队知识断裂带对国际化范围的负向影响,后增强高管团队知识断裂带对国际化范围的负向影响。进一步分析发现,高管团队知识断裂带对国际化范围的负向效应在全球战略布局的企业中更加突出:对仅在发达国家进行战略布局的企业而言,CEOTMT任期交叠、CEO-TMT相似交互分别对高管团队知识断裂带与国际化范围关系起正向调节作用;对全球战略布局的企业而言,CEO-TMT任期交叠的调节作用不再显著,CEO-TMT相似交互具有倒U型调节作用。
The characteristics and variations of Chinese firms’internationalization scope,not only reflect the different strategic postures,but also describe the dynamic adjustment process of location choice in international expansion,which is the result of a series of strategic decisions made by the top management team(TMT),who integrates the individual knowledge through internal interaction.Therefore,based on samples of the listed companies in China from 2010 to 2016,from the perspective of the behavior integration of Upper Echelon theory,this paper explores the relationship among knowledge-based TMT faultlines,the CEO-TMT interface and the internationalization scope,in which the CEO-TMT interface is divided into the CEO-TMT tenure overlap and CEO-TMT similar interface.The study shows that knowledge-based TMT faultlines have a significant negative effect on the internationalization scope,namely,the stronger knowledge-based TMT faultlines,the narrower the internationalization scope.CEO-TMT tenure overlap and CEOTMT similar interface have an inverted-U moderating effect on the relationship between knowledge-based TMT faultlines and internationalization scope separately.In other words,with CEO-TMT tenure overlap and CEO-TMT similar interface increasing,the negative influence of knowledge-based TMT faultlines on internationalization scope weakens at first,then increases.Further studies show that the negative impact of knowledge-based TMT faultlines exists in global strategic posture firms.For firms with strategic posture only in developed countries,CEO-TMT tenure overlap and CEOTMT similar interface have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between knowledge-based TMT faultlines and internationalization scope separately.For global strategic posture firms,CEO-TMT tenure overlap doesn't show a significant moderating effect,CEO-TMT similar interface shows an inverted-U moderating effect on the relationship between knowledge-based TMT faultlines and internationalization scope.This paper refines Upper Echelon theory by considering TMT internal structure and decision-making process,and also extends the research on micro foundations of internationalization process.
