In the novel Love,Toni Morrison overturned the direct writing of women’s personal experiences by previous feminist writers.Through the inner-focused narration of the heroines, she created Bill Cosey,a deceased male, who represents the supremacy of family. As the narrative center,Cosey led a series of racial conflicts and family conflicts that Morrison conceived ingeniously. This article attempts to put the tension theory of neo-criticism under the perspective of gender, explore the dual conflicts between the strong and the weak, love and hate in Love. And to clarify that the male images inked by Morrison actually paved a way for the deep connotation of female consciousness awakening and achieving the gender and race equality.
