乡土中国:从《边城》看乡土语言英译——基于“求真—务实”连续统评价模式

Rural China: Local English Translation from “Border Town”--Based on the “Truth-Pragmatic” Continuum Evaluation Model

沈从文的《边城》是一部充满质朴与温暖的乡土佳作。译者在处理该书乡土语言翻译时,策略不拘一格,不仅灵活运用各种译法,还尽可能将原作中的文化意象予以再现,让译入语读者更为准确全面地领略我国的传统文化和民俗风情。本文基于“求真—务实”连续统评价模式,通过《边城》两个英译本的个案分析,探讨了乡土语言在文学作品中的功用,总结了不同译者在翻译乡土语言时采用的不同策略及方法,从而探究中国“乡土语言”的英译策略及传播途径。

Shen Congwen’s“Border Town”is a rustic and warm work.When translators deal with the native language translation of the book,their strategies are eclectic.Not only do they use a variety of translation methods flexibly,they also reproduce the cultural images in the original work as much as possible,so that the readers of the translated language can more accurately and comprehensively understand our country’s traditional culture and folk customs.This paper is based on the“truth-pragmatic”continuum evaluation model,through the case analysis of two English translations of“Border Town”,discussing the function of native language in literary works,and summarizing the different strategies adopted by different translators in translating native language and methods to explore the English translation strategies and communication methods of Chinese“native languages”.
