A Textual Research on Jiyue of Tang Dynasty Imperial Examination System

“集阅”指唐代科举制度中乡贡报名和资格审查的过程。“集阅”的关键文件是州府试后出具的“文解”,它分两种,一是由乡贡本人持有的“个人文解”,一是由朝集使(进奏官)举送的“集体文解”。乡贡每年十月二十五日在朝集使(进奏官)带领下到户部报到(后改为礼部),开始“集阅”。经过疏名检籍、公布板样、交纳家状、结款通保等一系列严格的审查程序,十一月发布“驳榜”。到这时,举子们才算完成了“集阅”,正式获得就试资格。

"Jiyue"is a process of registration and qualification in Tang Dynasty imperial examination system.The key paper of"Jiyue"was the"official document"issued by local government.The official document included two forms:"personal document"brought by the candidates for the examinations,"group document"brought by the local officials.Candidates for the examinations registered their personal document on October 25th every year at the Ministry of Revenue in feudal China(it was changed to the Ministry of Rites in feudal China in 737 AD),then,Jiyue was beginning.The candidates must finish a series of procedures,including check their household registration,wait for the official file template of family information,fill and hand in their family information form,and vouch for each other.In November,the examiner-in-chief will promulgate the results of registration,so the candidates for the examination passed jiyue,and achieved qualification of the imperial examination.
