詹姆逊20世纪80年代开始倡导“认知图绘”方法,尝试在个人于后现代语境下迷失自.我之余,重新定位个人经验与社会结构之间的方位关系。他认为阿尔都塞是将意识形态重新界定为主体与其真实存在境况之间的想象关系,这跟他的“认知图绘”思想可以进行交流沟通。詹姆逊秉承曼德尔的资本主义三阶段论,相应阐释了三种空间,并把“认知图绘”美学作为一切社会主义政治宏图的有机组成部分。这一思想在哈特和塔利等杜克学人看来,体现了鲜明的美国马克思主义后现代批评的特点。

Fredric Jameson has started to promote his idea of "cognitive mapping" since the 1980s,with an attempt to redefine the relationship between personal experience and social structure while losing himself in the postmodern context.He believes that Althusser redefines ideology as the imaginary representation of the subject’s relationship with his real conditions of existence,which can be communicated with his "cognitive mapping" thought.Jameson inherits Mandel’s three-stage theory of capitalism,explains three kinds of spaces correspondingly,and takes "cognitive mapping" aesthetics as an organic part of all socialist political grand plans.In the eyes of Hart and Tally and other Duke scholars,this thought embodies the distinctive characteristics of postmodern criticism of American Marxism.
