有关庚子事变的一份实录——“宝鸭斋”长札释读

Textual Research on Baoyazhai Letter:A Historical Record of the 1900-Incident

中国社会科学院近代史研究所藏署"宝鸭斋"的一通长札,全札八纸,每页八行,总计1500余字。据考订,作者为湖南人徐树钧,此札作于光绪二十六年(1900年)六月十三日,内容多与近代史上著名的"庚子事变""东南互保"相关。札内综合各方见闻,记述了清廷对义和团实行"抚"议,中外开衅后京师、天津等处战况,湖南布政使锡良率兵北上勤王,东南各省实行"中外保护"办法,因应"停还洋债"等重要时事。当时湖南省内为防范内乱起见,举办团练,函中对主持其事的当地士绅亦有观察和评论。此函札不仅反映了亲历事变之人的即时观感,而且包涵了相当丰富的社会历史信息,可补前人认识之未足,兼具鉴赏和史料价值。本文予以识读整理,并略加笺释,以纪念庚子事变发生120周年。

The Baoyazhai long letter which is stowed at the Institute of Modern History of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,was written by Xu Shujun on June 13 during the 1900-Incident.The letter integrated information from various sources and recorded the events such as Qing court's “reconciliation”with the Boxers,international wars in the Qing’s capital and Tianjin,northbound movement of troops led by the Hunan's governor Xi Liang,the order of foreign debt payment suspension and tax management of southeast provinces etc.At that time,militias were organized in Hunan Province by local gentries to prevent civil strife,which was observed and commented in the letter.The letter not only reflects the vivid perception of the author who experienced the incident,but also contains abundant social and historical information,which is of significant value for both appreciation and historical research.This paper is also written to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the 1900-Incident.
