摘要
扬州大学大学英语课程改革具有重点突出、特色鲜明的特点,既能强调通用英语教学的基础性地位,又能因材施教、因需施教,根据不同学生群体的具体需求开展学术英语和专用英语教学。该改革符合原型认知原则,以原型认知理论为指导,既强调将原型作为认知的重点,又兼顾非原型成员的认知。扬州大学大学英语课程改革的成功经验对解决通用英语和学术英语之间的争论有指导性作用,对其他地方综合性高校进行大学英语课程设置也有借鉴意义。
The reform of college English at Yangzhou universities is characterized by its outstanding focus and distinctive features.One priority is given to the teaching of English for general purposes(EGP);the other one is the implementation of the teaching of English for academic purposes(EAP)or English for specific purposes(ESP)according to the needs of specific groups of students.These features coincide with the principle of the prototype theory,which emphasize the leading role of prototype members and the complimentary role of non-prototype members in the process of cognition of a category.The success of curriculum reform at YZU offers a constructive settlement of the debate between English for general purposes and English for academic purposes and serves as a model for other colleges and universities when carrying out curriculum reform of college English.
