《释名》中用为“液”的“汋”字旁议

Additional Research on the Character Zhuo(汋)Used as Ye(液)in Shi Ming(《释名》)

清代学者指出《释名》中有的“汋”字当为“液”字,或以为是通假,今有工具书也据清人说收录此条义项。实际上《释名》中用为“液”的“汋”字当是从水与声的字,即“液”的异体或俗字,后在传抄中或被改正作“液”,或因“勺”“与”形近讹作“汋”,此字形遂失。

Scholars in the Qing Dynasty pointed out that some of the character zhuo(汋)in Shi Ming(《释名》)should be ye(液),some of whom thought it was a phenomenon of phonological borrowing.Therefore,some reference books nowadays also include this item by following the view of the Qing scholars.In fact,the character zhuo(汋)used as ye(液)in Shi Ming(《释名》)should be the character that relates to水and uses与as its phonetic component,in another word,a variant or folk form of ye(液),which was corrected as ye(液)in the transmission and copying later,or mistakenly used as zhuo(汋)due to the close font of勺and与,resulting in the loss of the original form.
