The course of the library name and index name emerged in succession was described,the common development history of library and index in our country during the development of ancient,modern and contemporary libraries was stratified,the changes of library and index in different historical periods were analyzed,the continuous development of index due to the need of library and the improved information service competence of library due to the update and development of index were elaborated with suggestions and prospects proposed for the future cooperation contents and forms between library and index.
