苏曼殊是中国文学由近代性向现代性转型的代表作家,他一生性格充满矛盾和忧郁,其性格特质的表现是受西方文学及文人的现代性精神熏染导致的结果。他创作的主题从爱情观到爱国主义主题都充满了现代性;在创作形式上,他用语浅白,运用自叙传创作小说,创作形式也带有现代性特征。苏曼殊思想性格及文学创作的内在矛盾,客观上反映了中国由近代社会向现代性转型的基本情况,是中国社会现代性转型的特殊性在苏曼殊身上折射的产物。

Su Manshu is a representative writer of the transformation of Chinese literature from the modern to the contemporary.His character is full of contradictions and melancholy in his whole life.Influenced by western literature and the modernity spirit of literati,his themes of love and patriotism are full of modernity;in the form of creation,he uses simple language and autobiography to create novels,which also bears the characteristics of modernity.Su’s ideological character and inner contradiction in his creation objectively reflect the basic situation of China's transformation from the modern to contemporary society,which is the product of the particularity of China's social modernity transformation reflected on Su Manshu.
