On the surface,Faulkner’s classic Light in August mainly revolves around three main characters’living experiences in an isolated and backward Southern town to explore racial issues. In effect,Faulkner imaginarily constructs the erosion of Jefferson by foreigners, which not only deconstructs the assumption that the United States can freely resolve the persistent tensions between North and South, black and white, and urban and rural areas, but also question the America’s racial ideology, further reflecting anxieties of immigration and miscegenation at local and national level.
