“闻之于宋君”的训释问题

People have two kinds of understanding about the structure of the sentence“wen zhi yu song jun”(闻之于宋君)taken from the passage“ca chuan”(察传)of Lv’s Commentaries of History.Some argue that the sentence is of causative structure,while others believe it is of passive structure.This paper analyzes the meaning of the character“wen”(闻)as well as the structure of“wen zhi yu song jun”(闻之于宋君).Since“wen”(闻)here means“to report”or“to inform”,the above sentence is neither of causative structure,nor of passive structure.
