Multiple Meanings of Repetition: About Peter Handke’s Die Wiederholung

2019年诺贝尔文学奖得主彼得·汉德克的小说《去往第九王国》的德文原名"Die Wiederholung",可直译为"重复"。"重复"不仅是小说的三章标题中神秘符号的内部联系,也是文中同义反复、首语重复和回环文等修辞的核心要素。本文聚焦此小说,从内容和形式两大层面探讨文本对"重复"的述行,旨在向中文读者更好地解释原作德文标题的含义。

The title of the Nobel laureate Peter Handke’s novel "Die Wiederholung" is literally translated as "Go to the Ninth Kingdom" in its Chinese version from Prof. Dr. HAN Ruixiang. The original German title shows not only the association between the mysterious symbols in the three chapter titles, but also the core element of rhetoric like tautology, anaphora, parallelism and word chain. The following paper attempts to discuss the performativity of repetition in this novel from content and form perspective, with the goal to clarify the meaning of the original German title for Chinese readers.
