目的语读者视角下的翻译策略研究——以《〈红楼梦〉英译笔记》为中心

Study on Translation Strategies from the Perspective of Target Readers:Based on Translator’s Notebooks of The Story of the Stone by David Hawkes

以霍克思《〈红楼梦〉英译笔记》为中心,结合霍译本《红楼梦》的翻译实践,探讨了目的语读者视角下译者所采用的翻译策略,主要表现为:为了方便目的语读者阅读,翻译时对底本的修改;为使行文更紧凑,删去底本无关紧要的内容;为了使情节更连贯,补充底本缺少的内容;为了使文本前后一致,对底本中的矛盾之处作出调整;对底本中涉及文化色彩的词语,采用直译+注解的方式。霍克思的翻译策略对当下我国基于文化传播的翻译活动具有重要的借鉴意义。

It focused on Hawkes’notebooks in this paper on the English translation of The Story of the Stone and explores 5 strategies adopted by the translator to help readers to have a better understanding of the novel.First,facilitate the English readers to read,the right original version is selected among various versions and revised necessarily before translating;Second,make the text more compact,the irrelevant content of the original is deleted or removed;Third,make the plot more coherent and logical,the lack of the original content is added;Foruth,the information that contradicts each other in the original is adapted and altered to make the text consistent and reasonable;Fifth,for the words related to cultural color in the book,an approach of literal translation and cultural annotation is adopted.All these strategies are very effective and efficient for English reader to read the great work.
