The Sino-Africa relationship has attracted tremendous attention in recent years. Based on the soft power framework proposed by Joseph Samuel Nye Jr., this research aims to explore the relationships between media exposure, value orientation, and Africans’ evaluation of China’s economic and political influence. By analyzing 35,690 respondents from 33 African countries, results demonstrate that radio exposure and television exposure are positively related to evaluation, while newspaper exposure holds a negative correlation. Neither Internet exposure nor Internet penetration significantly correlates with evaluation. As for value orientation, perceived democracy and perceived freedom are positively correlated with evaluation. Findings are further elaborated by going back through African social situations, Sino-Africa bilateral relations’ status quo, and measurement indicators’ implicit structures.
