Objective To explore the current status of diet decision-making balance among patients with type 2 diabetes and its correlation with their big five personality traits,so as to provide a reference for individualized healthy diet education in clinical practice. Methods Convenient sampling was used to select 192 inpatients with type 2 diabetes from the Department of Endocrinology of 3 tertiary hospitals in Chongqing City. The Decisional Balance Scale for Diet Adherence and the Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventory(NEO-FFI)were used for investigation. Results The score of perceived benefits among the patients with type 2 diabetes was 22.00(20.00,24.00),the score of perceived barriers was 20.50(16.00,23.00),and the score of diet decision-making balance was 2.00(-3.00,8.00).Diet decision-making balance was positively correlated with agreeableness and conscientiousness of the big five personality traits, and was negatively correlated with neuroticism(all P<0.05).Conclusions Patients with type 2 diabetes have a low level of diet decision-making balance, which is closely related with their personality traits.Nursing staff should provide targeted help for the patients to take effective coping strategies,so as to improve their diet decision-making balance.
