The Netw ork Connectivity of East Asia's Global Cities Compared

This is an empirical paper that compares the network connectivity of East Asia's global cities.Building on a specification of the world city network as an"interlocking network"in which advanced producer services firms play the crucial role in the city net work formation,in 2018 we gathered information on the presence of globalized advanced producer services firms in cities.This information is converted into data to assess the "service value"of a city for a firm's provision of corporate services in a 708(cities)X 175(firms)matrix.These data are then used as the input to the interlocking network model in order to measure cities'connect ivity and its predominant geographical orientat ion.We also develop measures of change by comparing measures of connectivity with those in 2000.Results are compared and interpreted for Fast Asia's major global cities,and accustomed to reflect on how this provides urban researchers with a backcloth for reference when studying the shifting position of Chinese cities in globalization.
