唐代传奇小说《谢小娥传》虽是为宣扬古代女子的贞与节,但其中所蕴含的神不灭论与因果报应说等佛教哲学思想也是其重要组成部分。隋唐时期佛教的世俗化发展趋势,以及唐代开放而宽松的文化政策是佛教思想能顺利融入小说《谢小娥传》的主要原因。基于这两个原因,不仅使传奇小说在底层民众中流传,同时也促进了禅宗等佛教哲学思想在底层民众中的传播。

Although the legendary novel Biography of Xie Xiao’e in the Tang Dynasty promoted the chastity and integrity of ancient women, its Buddhist philosophy, such as the immortality theory and karma theory, is also an important part of it. At its root, the secular development trend of Buddhism in the Sui and Tang dynasties and the open and relaxed cultural policy of the Tang dynasty were the main reasons why Buddhist ideas smoothly merged into Biography of Xie Xiao’e. These two reasons not only enabled the spread of legendary novels but also promoted the circulation of Zen and other Buddhist philosophy among the people at the bottom.
