Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List is widely regarded as a realism documentary film that vividly represent the history of the Holocaust. However, Geoffrey Hartman argues that the film, with artificial shoot, characters and plots, is essentially a false representation of history. The reason probably lies not only in the contradiction between the logic of passion narrative of Hollywood films and the ashes of the Holocaust reality, but also in the desire of the false consolation of the Holocaust history by American optimism and humanitarianism in the time of amusing ourselves to death.
