On the Temporal and Spatial Features of English and Chinese from the Perspective of Temporal and Spatial Metaphors of Idioms

习语是文化的载体,是考察语言时空特征的重要依据。经分类研究后发现,英语习语中时间隐喻的数量和种类多于汉语,汉语习语中空间隐喻的数量和种类多于英语。英语具有更强的时间性特征,汉语具有更强的空间性特征。英汉习语的时空观差异与英汉民族的文化差异密切相关。

Idioms,as the carrier of culture,are important embodiment of temporal and spatial features of language.Temporal metaphors in English idioms are more diverse than those in Chinese,while spatial metaphors in Chinese are more diverse than those in English.The Chinese spatiality and English temporality are proved by the idioms,which is closely related to their different national cultures.
