《白老虎》以自我讲述的方式展现了巴尔拉姆的成长经历,其中充满了对印度现代社会的批判与反思。由于传统种姓制度的深刻影响,等级压抑一直渗透于印度社会生活的各个方面,并形成不同形式的政治恐惧。这一方面导致印度现代民主政治扭曲失效,新的权力压抑不断滋生;一方面使得弱肉强食成为印度社会的根本生存法则,个人的自由追寻异化为暴力掠夺。这种"夹生"的印度社会与"半吊子"巴尔拉姆相互映照,都呈现了印度现代政治的悲剧根源。

White Tiger presents Balram’s growth experience in a self-narrative manner,which is full of the criticism and reflection on Indian modern politics.Due to the profound influence of the traditional caste system,hierarchical repression has always penetrated into all aspects of Indian social life and formed different forms of political fear.On the one hand,it leads to the distortions and invalidation of India’s modern democratic politics,new repression of power continues to breed;on the other hand,the law of the jungle becomes the fundamental survival of Indian society and the individual freedom pursuit alienates into violent plunder.Reflecting with the"half-baked"Balram is the"half-made"Indian society,both of which present the tragic roots of modern politics in Indian.
