The reform of new geography textbooks for senior high school has put forward new requirements for improving the current training of geography teachers in higher normal schools and the training of in-service teachers in middle schools. From a new perspective of geography subject competency, the new textbooks have changed greatly in terms of man-land coordination, regional cognition and geographic practice. The content of the concept of man-land coordination strengthens the characteristics of globality, timeliness, preciseness and relevance, and requires teacher development and training to focus more on the comprehensiveness, accuracy and globality of the man-land relationship. The content of regional cognition highlights the regularity of spatial distribution and the regionality of the system, and requires teacher development and training to pay more attention to the relevance and openness of regional cognition. The geographic practice has added contentabout field investigations and experiments, and requires teacher development and training to increase field investigations and experimental facilities. At the same dme,the new textbooks require development and training to focus on improving students’thinking.Correspondingly, the training of geography teachers in higher normal schools and the training of in-service geography teachers in middle schools should also improve management methods.
