Geographical Interpretation of Li People’s Tattoo Custom in Hainan

海南黎族原为水居民族,迁入五指山区后,仍保持并发展了文身的习俗。这是古代黎族先民为适应海南热带地理环境而采取的一种文化形态。举凡海南黎族文身之天文、地理、动植物等图案,采用的色彩、部位等,皆具有丰富的民族、风俗、环境、审美等科学文化内涵。

Li people in Hainan are originally water-dwelling people who have kept and developed the custom of tattooing the body after they moved to Wu Zhi Shan area.This is a cultural form taken by the ancient Li ancestors to adapt to the tropical geographical environment of Hainan.The patterns of astronomy,geography,animals and plants used in the tattoo of Li people have rich cultural and scientific connotations,such as nationality,custom,environment and aesthetics.
