Ren Si-xiu′s Experience of Treating Laryngogenic Cough from "Wind"

任思秀老师认为,喉源性咳嗽病位在咽喉,与肺密切相关,风邪为喉源性咳嗽的主要致病因素。风邪有外风与内风之分。祛风止痒、宣肺止咳为外风所致喉源性咳嗽的基本治法,任老师常用发散风药治疗,方剂常选止嗽散和三拗汤,常用药物有麻黄、荆芥、防风、桔梗、紫菀、百部、白前、苏子、金沸草等。若病程较长,风邪郁闭于内,潜于肺络深处,非草木之药力可及,任老师常用搜剔风药治疗,常用药物有蝉蜕、全蝎、蜈蚣、僵蚕等。若为外风引动内风而致咳者,任老师常将搜剔风药和发散风药一同使用,达到内外同治的目的。若患者素体正虚,为防"搜剔风药"过度伤正,常配伍黄芪、白术、防风以益气固表。

Professor Ren Si-xiu believes that laryngogenic cough is located in the throat and is closely related to the lung.Wind pathogen is the main pathogenic factor.Wind pathogen can be divided into external wind and internal wind.Dispelling wind and arresting itching,dispersing lung and relieving cough are the basic treatments for laryngogenic cough caused by external wind.Professor Ren often uses"wind-dispersing medicinals"to treat it.Cough-Stopping Powder and Rough and Ready Three Decoction are often selected.The commonly-used medicinals include Mahuang(Herba Ephedrae),Jingjie(Radix Platycodonis),Fangfeng(Radix Saposhnikoviae),Jiegeng(Radix Platycodonis),Ziwan(Radix et Rhizoma Asteris),Baibu(Radix Stemonae),Baiqian(Rhizoma et Radix Cynanchi Stauntonii),Suzi(Fructus Perillae),Jinfeicao(Herba Inulae),etc.If the course of the disease is long,the wind pathogen is stagnant inside,and hidden in the deep of the lung collaterals,which is not removed by the power of herbal medicinals,Professor Ren often uses"wind-eliminating medicinals",and the commonly-used medicinals include Chantui(Periostracum Cicadae),Quanxie(Scorpio),Wugong(Scolopendra),Jiangcan(Bombyx Batryticatus),etc.If the cough is caused by the internal wind disturbed by the external wind,Professor Ren often uses"wind-eliminating medicinals"and"wind-dispersing medicinals"together so as to achieve the goal of internal and external treatment.If the patient is constantly deficient,in order to prevent excessive damage of to the body by"wind-eliminating medicinals",Huangqi(Radix Astragali),Baizhu(Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae),Fangfeng(Radix Saposhnikoviae)are often combined to replenish qi and consolidate exterior.
