Four Quartets(1935-1943)is one of the best works of Thomas Stearns Eliot(1888-1965),a modern British poet,and one of the representative works which shows his ideological and artistic characteristics.Through the"dialogue"between tradition and reality,the poems highlight the contradiction between the two in time and seek combination and eternity.The poet uses the language of religious enlightenment to depict the ultimate problems such as the limit and the infinite,the beginning and the end,the past and the future,life and death.It is the pursuit and understanding of the traditional value and reflects the poet’s dialectical religious historical view.It is full of philosophy and metaphysics.
