Director Zhang Yimou compares the film One Second as a love letter he wrote to film. As a significant artistic film in his creative pedigree, the film narrates the indissoluble love relationship between people and film and the memory of the times with a simple tone and documentary style. It is not only a continuation of Zhang Yimou’ s extreme image style, but also the director’ s narrative focus on ordinary people’s emotional experience again. This interview deeply analyzes the director’s contemplation on creation, including the reasons for the choice of actors and the positioning of narrative style, as well as some constant thinking of his artistic creation, and even more involves his later creative choices.
