As part of the American ethnic minorities,Chinese Americans have developed their literature since last century, reaching its peak around 1990s.The quantity and quality have both reached a new height ever since the new millennium and have become prosperous in all aspects. The male characters from Chinese-American literature works of the new millennium are distinctively different from those of last century in that they no longer function as symbols of“yellow disaster”or foil of white people. The change of characters can be revealed by not only their occupations and values but by their recognition of cultural identity. An contrastive analysis of the characters of James Lee from Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng and other classic characters of literature works from the last century offers the audience a new understanding of the change in male characters from Chinese-American literature works.
