《慈悲》是通过一个苯酚厂的变革与兴衰,来书写中国近五十年的历史,以及在时代变换中人的命运更迭。路内用一种客观、冷静的视角重塑历史,却暗含慈悲之心来塑造一些与苦难常伴,生活平淡庸常,被历史裹挟的普通大众形象,透过他们来探讨生命的本质,人性的良善,以及活着的价值和意义。

Mercy which narrates a story of change,rise and decline of a phenol factory,is alluding to China’s nearly fifty years’ history as well as the changes of people’s destiny with the change of times.Reshaping history from an objective and dispassionate perspective,Lu Nei,with an interior compassion,creates the images of some ordinary people who always suffer from misfortunes,trifling matters and the constraints of history,to explore the nature of life,the goodness of human nature and the value and meaning of living.
