Visual Expression of Agricultural Mechanization: Centering on New Year Pictures (1949-1980)

新中国成立初期的农业机械化主题年画展示了丰富的农业机械化形象,体现出政府对新农业、新农民、新农村的倡导,展现出政府对一种新的社会—技术体系的追求。农业机械化主题年画利用了系列显示策略,构建了农业机械化形象显示的晕圈,处于这一晕圈中的农业机械化具有了强烈的美感。大量带有画面感的农业机械化标语,提供了另一种形式的农业机械化形象显示,与农业机械化主题年画一起,共同描绘着新中国的田园诗。

In the early days of New China, the Chinese government worked hard to promote the agricultural mechanization(AM), and the New Year picture was one of the main media for publicizing this program. Theme pictures for this purpose presented the images of AM in an effective manner, and reflected the Chinese government had centered on the development of new agriculture, new farmer, and new countryside as part of its efforts in building a new sociotechnical system. The theme pictures, by adopting the series presentation strategy, created a halo under which the presentation of the AM image is thus endowed with a strong aesthetic feeling. During the period, there also appeared a large amount of vivid slogans with picture sense for promoting the AM in another form, which coupled with the theme pictures, portrayed vivid images of AM, created an idyll of AM carried out by the New China.
