FOXP3^+ regulatory T cell(FOXP3^+ Treg) is a subgroup of T lymphocytes with immunosuppressive effects and plays an essential role in the maintenance of human immune homeostasis. Recently, more and more researches revealed the role of FOXP3^+ Treg in the pathogenic processes of human clinical diseases and its mechanism, which lays the foundation for the immune therapies targeting FOXP3^+ Treg. In this review, the development and function of FOXP3^+ Treg will be summarized at first. Then, we will focus on the recent advances in physiological functions and regulatory mechanisms of FOXP3^+ Treg in major infectious diseases as well as the therapeutic strategies, and look forward to the future development.
