历史分期是将历史上发生的事件按照一定的时间顺序进行的归类和分级,旨在揭示历史发展过程中不同时期之间的差别,其构成的框架有利于历史全貌的认知。历史分期研究对长时段历史,尤其是通史的分卷写作具有重要的意义。为此,我们将连云港的历史分为"前州级时期"和"州级时期"两大时期。"前州级时期"又分为四个阶段:第一阶段为原始人群时期,时间距今约40000年至7000年;第二阶段为方国时期,时间距今约7000年至4000年;第三阶段为国(诸侯国)邑时期,时间为公元前2070年至公元前222年;第四阶段为县制时期,时间为公元前221年至549年。"州级时期"也分为四个阶段:第一阶段为州县时期,时间为549年至1911年;第二阶段为县制时期,时间为1912年至1949年;第三阶段是单列市时期,时间为1949年至1982年;第四阶段是省辖市时期,时间为1983年至今。

Historical stages are of classification and grading of historical events in a certain chronological order,to reveal the differences between different periods during historical development, whose framework is conducive to the cognition of the whole historical picture. The study of historical stages is of great significance to the writing of longterm history,especially the general history.To that end, the history of Lianyungang is divided into two periods:the Pre-state Period and the State Period. The former is divided into four stages:the first stage is the primitive crowd period about 40,000 to 7,000 years ago;the second stage is the Fangguo period(united city-state system) about7000 to 4000 years ago;The third stage is the Guoyi period(kingdoms), from 2070 BC to 222 BC;The fourth stage is the county system period from 221 BC to 549 BC. The latter is also divided into four stages: the first stage is the state-county period from 549 to 1911;the second stage is the county system period in 1912 to 1949;the third stage is the separate city period from 1949 to 1982;the fourth stage is the provincially-administered city period from1983 to present.
