芥子园与昆曲

Mustard Seed Garden(Jiezi-yuan)and Kunqu Opera

芥子园是明末清初文化名人李渔在南京营建的私家园林,从营建伊始便与昆曲有着密切的联系。李渔在芥子园生活期间,出版了《笠翁十种曲》和《闲情偶寄》等与昆曲相关的著作,作品中多有与芥子园相关的记载。李渔又组建了芥子园家班,邀请文人雅士到芥子园鉴赏昆曲,并经常携班四处演出,往来顾曲家对芥子园及芥子园家班多有题赠。近年来,南京老门东重建了芥子园,并在园中演出昆曲,芥子园对于昆曲的当代传承与发展有着独特的文化意义。

Mustard Seed Garden(Jiezi-yuan)is a private garden built in Nanjing by LI Yu,a famous cultural figure in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties which has been closely associated with Kunqu Opera since its construction.During his stay in the Mustard Seed Garden,LI Yu published works related to Kunqu Opera,such as Ten Plays(Liweng-shizhong-qu)and Occasional Notes with Leisure Motions(Xianqing-ouji),in which there were many records related to the Mustard Seed Garden.LI Yu also set up a Mustard Seed Garden troupe who invited literati there to appreciate Kunqu Opera,and he often accompanied the troupe on a perforimg tour and thus received many inscriptions to the Garden and the troupe from musicians with contacts.In recent years,Mustard Seed Garden was rebulit in the east to the Ancient Gate of Nanjing where Kunqu Operas have been performed and thus Mustard Seed Garden has a unique cultural significance for the contemporary inheritance and development of Kunqu Opera.
