Charles Wright has an intense interest in Chinese classical poetry.His poetry is influenced in many ways by the Chinese poetry of the Tang Dynasty.In Chickamauga,Wright establishes a direct dialogue with poets in the Tang Dynasty through intertextual apostrophe,quotation and parody.Less obviously,his poetry is intertextually linked to Tang poetry through their visual texts,namely painting,highlighting the poetic integrity of both poetry and painting.Furthermore,Wright’s poetry explicitly identifies with Tang poetry in that both,with natural landscape as a medium,focus on the inner landscape and convey similar views of life in similar poetic contexts.
