While respectively writing Longbourn and Atonement in the 1960 s’ tradition of critically re-writing of classical texts, the contemporary British novelists Jo Baker and Ian McEwan turned their glare to the classical writer Jane Austen and creatively used Austen’s factor in the aspects of narrative style, characterization, and the construction of theme. By following the belief of intertextuality between contemporary literature and classical literature, they inherited traditional literary heritage and offered valuable experience for the composition of contemporary English novel, mutually boosting the firm literary reputation of Austen and the promotion of their literary position.
