西式饭店是近代北京引入较早、发展速度很快的新式综合性休闲空间,对其进行研究能够加深对近代北京城市休闲空间嬗变的认识。作为新式综合性休闲空间,近代北京的西式饭店不再局限于传统旅馆的功能,而是兼营宴饮聚会、跳舞游艺以及举办各类展览活动等。一定程度上,西式饭店成为推动新式休闲活动在城市发展的试验场。西式饭店在北京兴起大致经历了1901年至1911年的引入期和1912年至1927年扩张期两个阶段,其间各自呈现不同的发展特征。以西式饭店为代表的新式休闲空间的引入和发展,形塑了近代北京社会的新式休闲生活,彰显了城市休闲生活快速融入世界潮流的基本特征。

Western-style hotel is a new comprehensive leisure space which was introduced in the earlier time and later developed rapidly in modern Beijing.The study on it can help us to deepen the understanding on the evolution of urban leisure space in modern Beijing.As a new type of comprehensive leisure space,the western-style hotels in modern Beijing were no longer limited to the functions of traditional hotels,but also expanded its services to the banquets,entertainment,exhibitions,etc.To a certain extent,western-style hotel has become a test ground for promoting the development of new leisure activities in the city.The rise of western-style hotels in Beijing has roughly gone through two stages:the introduction period from 1901 to 1911 and the expansion period from 1912 to 1927,with different development characteristics respectively.The introduction and development of new leisure spaces,represented by western-style hotels,has shaped the new leisure life in modern Beijing and highlighted the basic characteristics of the urban leisure life’s integrating itself rapidly into the global trend.
