小说是文学中不可或缺的一种文体,只有诗词文不能展现一个城市完整的文化风貌,小说的兴起表明了近代天津文学的完善与城市文化的繁荣。小说的转型也预示着整个城市文学向现代的转型,由诗词等抒情文学为主转向以小说等叙事文学为主,由贵族的文学转向平民的文学,由小众的文学转向大众的文学。而在转型的过程中,很多过渡形式、探索形式的小说都同时存在着,呈现出新旧并存、雅俗并存、中西并存的状态,互相吸收、融纳,充分体现了天津文学和文化的开放性与包容性。

Novel is an indispensable literary style.Only poetry and prose could not show a complete regional cultural features.The rise of the novel indicated the perfection of Modern Tianjin literature and the prosperity of urban culture.The transformation of the novel also indicated that the whole urban literature was changing to modern type,from lyric literature such as poetry to narrative literature such as novel;from noble literature to popular literature;from minority literature to popular literature.In the process of transformation,many novels in the form of transition and exploration existed at the same time,showing the coexistence of the old and the new,the coexistence of elegance and vulgarity,and the coexistence of Chinese and western,absorbing and assimilating each other,fully reflecting the openness and inclusiveness of Tianjin literature and culture.
