As one of the earliest literary forms of the American Indian, poetry is based on the labor experience in the tribal period and rooted in the oral tradition of the American Indian, which is handed down from generation to generation.Joy Harjo is the most influential American Indian poet in contemporary America. Her poems inherit the oral tradition of The American Indian and convey vivid poetic language to readers by telling stories. In Harjo’s poems, the storytelling traces the origin of the American Indian with the land as the main motif.Harjo’s poetic stories are based on the spiritual perspective of the American Indian’s worship of nature and face the survival dilemma of the American Indian in the contemporary society. In the way of contemporary allegory, these poetry stories warn readers to respect nature and stick to tradition,so as to break through the barrier of modern social dilemma, adhere to the beliefs and values of the American Indian, and make national spirit of the American Indian continue to exist.
