Paradox in the Public and Private: Mechanisms of Morality in Contemporary Chinese Society

道德及其公私界限的辨析,一直是学术界讨论中国公-私问题的重要切入点。在古今之变的思想维度中,传统公德始终是国家政治道德,而近现代知识分子曾经将公德建设与民族独立、国家振兴紧密联系,影响至今。在"立公灭私""以公并私"的行动逻辑中,中国大众之私德始终被视为权力神圣的治理对象,在私产不义、私利不保的现实境遇之中,私德依旧缺乏独立存在的基础与界限,进而在被公德继续强力整合的同时,不断呈现公私混淆的困境。特别是传统总体神圣格局一直未能实现现代的转型,进而促使公私道德转换呈现出彼此反转的社会学特征,给当代中国的文明治理提供了不少重大论题。

The division of morality into public and private spheres has been a focal point in academic discussion regarding Chinese society.Looking at the issue historically,traditional,public morality has always been the national,political morality,and modern intellectuals have sought to link public morality to a sense of national independence and revival.The overall tendency has been to afford the idea of public morality aposition of priority,and individual morality is either neglected of conflated with the former.
