Exploring the Historiography of Translation in the West

本文围绕西方翻译史学中值得研究、参考和借鉴的诸多方面展开讨论,在思考和行动层面,就如何运用翻译史学乃至宏观译学领域的"他山之石"为自己"攻玉"的问题,阐发了笔者的个人思想和观点,以期能引发对相关问题更多而更深入的思考。

This paper discusses the meaningfulness of the historiographical study of translation in the West from the perspective of current Chinese TS research.Examining the various aspects of translational development in the West,and how certain issues about translation may be of a general nature,e.g.,those on the nature of translation as well as on the principles and methods of translation,the paper throws light on the relevance of historiographical researches in translation to the development of the theoretical discourse on translation in the Chinese context (or any other context for that matter),and argues that only by maintaining an open-mindedness in our approaches,in the sense that different traditions of translation are willing to learn from one another,will it be possible for TS research to develop as healthily and vigorously on the international arena as we would hope for it to.
