Botulinum toxin is a bacterial exotoxin produced during the proliferation of Clostridium botulinum.Botulinum toxin can act on the neuromuscular junction of peripheral nerve endings to inhibit the release of the presynaptic neurotransmitter acetylcholine,and achieve the effects of chemical denervation,analgesia,and regulation of autonomic nerve disorders.This review focuses on the therapeutic effect of botulinum toxin,as well as the clinical application progress of botulinum toxin and the clinical value of the development of new indications for botulinum toxin.
