Population agglomeration,industrial structure and regional economic growth

人口集聚、产业结构在区域经济增长中起着重要作用。基于人口集聚地区的特点,利用2003—2015淮河流域40个地级市的数据,以人口集聚度指标来测量淮河流域各地级市人口集聚程度,并建立面板数据模型检验产业结构、人口集聚与经济增长之间的关系。检验结果表明:产业结构在人口集聚促进经济增长中起着中介效应,进一步实证人口集聚对经济增长的直接影响以及产业结构升级是人口集聚影响地区经济增长水平的作用机制之一。

Population agglomeration and industrial structure play an important role in regional economic growth.Based on the characteristics of population-aggregated areas,this paper uses the data of 40 prefecture-level cities in the Huaihe River Basin from 2003 to 2015 to measure the population concentration of various cities in the Huaihe River Basin,and establishes a panel data model to examine the relationship between industrial structure,population agglomeration and economic growth.The test result shows that the industrial structure plays a mediating role between population agglomeration and economic growth,and verifies the mechanism of population agglomeration indirectly promoting economic growth through industrial structure upgrading.It further demonstrates that the direct impact of population agglomeration on economic growth and the upgrading of industrial structure are one of the ways for economic growth in areas affected by population agglomeration.
