台州文化作为浙江中部沿海的区域文化,既以多元一体、百川归海的姿态显示出中华文化的共通性、向心力,也以自身特色显示出地域文化的丰富性、多样性。台州"一郡连山,围在海外"而成"另一乾坤"的地理格局,负山表海而兼山海之利的自然环境,为区域发展烙上了"山海雄奇"的自然地理印记和"磊落挺拔"的文化地理印记。台州文化以下汤文化为光辉起点,经历了史前到隋唐"从区域性文明到大一统文明",五代到南宋"从边缘区域到全国重心区域",元代到明清"从王畿辅郡滑落为海陬边郡",近代到当下"从内陆时代走向海洋时代"等四个阶段,呈现出起伏前行、特色鲜明的演进理路。

Taizhou’s geographical pattern of "another heaven and earth" is formed by "one county linked with mountains and surrounded by overseas". The natural environment surrounded by mountains and seas and beneficial for mountains and sea has branded the regional development with the natural geographical mark of "magnificent mountains and sea" and the cultural geographical mark of "outstanding and upright". Taizhou culture, with Xiatang culture as its glorious starting point, has experienced four stages from prehistory to Sui and Tang Dynasties, from "regional civilization to unified civilization", from Five Dynasties to Southern Song Dynasty, "from marginal region to national center of gravity", from Yuan Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasties, "from important county to marginal county", and from modern times to the present "from inland era to marine era", showing distinctive performance of the evolution logic.
