Road construction was an important means for Roman to maintain and consolidate its rule.Rome built a large number of roads not only in Italian mainland,but also in many provinces,among which the road construction in Province Judaea was especially important for its rule in the East.In addition to maintaining and consolidating the rule,there were also other reasons such as economic needs for Roman Empire’s road construction in Judaea.The road construction in Rome Judaea has experienced three stages:slow start,rapid growth and gradual decline,and in the process of road construction,the Romans not only followed their standard procedures of road building,but also took special measures.Roman roads of Judaea had become an important tool for Roman’s rule in Judaea,had promoted the development of commerce,and cities,and had provided a necessary condition for the expansion of Christianity.
