The Development of the Guarantee System of Candidates Identities for Imperial Examinations in the Ming Dynasty

以乡里举保、生员互保和官员保结为主要内容,以保举品学兼优的生儒参加科举考试为主要目的明代科举保结制度经历了初创期、发展期和成熟期,为明代科举取士、选拔人才提供了有力支持,也存在因政治腐败而失去效用的情况。

The guarantee system of candidates identities for imperial examinations in the Ming Dynasty experienced its initial stage and developed well into being a mature one,the main content of which was the guarantee of the qualifications of those candidates taking provincial-level imperial examinations as well as the mutual guarantee of students and officials.Its primary purpose was to ensure that those students who were in excellent in both character and learning could take imperial examinations,so as to provide strong support for the selection of talents for the emperors in the Ming Dynasty.However,we find that there was also political corruption which made the system less effective.
