EDITOR'S NOTE

当《城市设计》2021年第1期出版发行的时候,已经是中国牛年。希望2021年的世界更加美好。本期转载了纪念英国空间句法理论创始人比尔·希列尔先生的文章《探索空间的前沿——比尔·希列尔(1937—2019)》。作者是空间句法公司前负责人、英国UCL大学建筑学院前院长艾伦·佩恩教授。艾伦·佩恩通过该文向比尔·希列尔(1937—2019)致敬,他描述了由比尔·希列尔开创的空间句法的发展历史及其对建筑设计和城市规划学科的贡献,以及比尔一生体现出的科学探索精神、坚韧不拔的毅力和学术大师风范。

When the first issue of Urban Design in 2021 was published,it was already the Chinese Year of the Ox.I hope that the world in 2021 will be better.This journal forwarded the article"Exploring the Frontiers of Space:Bill Hillier(1937-2019)"commemorating Mr.Bill Hillier,the founder of Space Syntax theory.The author is Professor Alan Penn,former head of Space Syntax and former dean of the School of Built Environment at UCL in the UK.Alan Penn pays tribute to Bill Hillier(1937-2019),who was the original pioneer of the methods for the analysis of spatial patterns known as‘space syntax'.An intellectual giant,Bill established space syntax as a field of science that combines theoretical exploration with planning and design practice.Alan describes the historic evolution of space syntax and Bill's contribution to the fields of architecture and urban planning.
