Contemporary Chinese American Sinologist Kuang-ming Wu and His Studies of Zhuangzi

本文通过吴光明公开发表的著作及其与笔者多年的学术交流,尝试从学术人生、庄学研究成果及专著特征等方面系统介绍当代美国汉学家吴光明及其庄学研究,以期能为国内学界认识、评介吴光明提供参考。吴光明立足于《庄子》,首次在英语世界通过与西方哲学对话的方式,从《庄子》的游戏性、唤起性、音乐性、故事讲述性与反逻辑性等特征,描绘了庄子“游戏的世界哲学家”形象,解释了庄子哲学对世界哲学的独特贡献。

This paper attempts to introduce systematically the Zhuangzi studies of Kuang-ming Wu based on his academic life experiences,his academic works and the email texts between Wu and the author of this essay.Through the dialogue with Western philosophy for the first time in the English-speaking world,Wu depicts Zhuangzi as a world philosopher and explains his contributions to world philosophy from the characteristics and nature of the Zhuangzi text,such as its playfulness,evocativeness,musicality,story-telling approach,and illogical features.
